Visceral Leishmaniasis Diagnostics: Experiences from the Field

Dr. Diro is an internal medicine physician from University of Gondar, Ethiopia with more than ten years of experience practicing tropical medicine, coordinating internal medicine residency program and conducting clinical research. His main areas of research are visceral leishmaniasis, HIV and drug resistant tuberculosis. He coordinates the leishmaniasis research and treatment center and the drug resistant TB treatment program at University of Gondar and has worked as a principal investigator on a several clinical trials and other research projects.  He has secured several research grants and worked in collaboration with Drugs for neglected Diseases initiative, Geneva; Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp; Médecins Sans Frontières; World health Organization; Global Health Committee; Harvard; USAID and others. He has served as advisor and consultant in the Ethiopian national task force on leishmaniasis and drug resistant tuberculosis programs.
